Armchair Apocrypha is perhaps Andrew Bird’s closest release of a rock album to date, yet he somehow is able to blend the sounds of electric guitars with violin and drum loops to create yet another “one of the most unique things you’ve ever heard” type of albums. And of course, as expected, Bird’s passionate, storylike lyrics are vibrantly present throughout. Even if Armchair Apocrypha was Bird’s most commercially successful albums yet, he is still one of music’s best kept secrets. Highlights include the particularly powerful “Plasticities” and the bouncy “Heretics”.
