At first listen, it feels like The Editors were influenced by nearly everyone from Interpol to Coldplay in developing the sound of An End Has a Start. But that’s not to say their music isn’t original. The texture of the 2007 release isn’t as unique as their debut release The Back Room, but it is more mature and developed, powerful and full. And this seems to be a pretty appealing quality in the current state of music. Plus, the vocals of front man Tom Smith always seem to blend well with the rest of the band. In the end, you can’t deny the album’s catchy nature and it certainly is a strong follow up to a debut that many viewed as flawless.
