Tricks or Treats: “Ghost Town”

October is a special month. The leaves change color, Halloween is on everyone’s mind, and the weather is dark and gloomy in many locales. What better way to celebrate the creepiest month of the year with an ongoing feature on some of our favorite spooky, eerie, scary or Halloween songs.

“Ghost Town” by The Specials has long been known for its dramatic spooky horns that are present throughout the song. Not lost amidst the creepy music are the lyrics that deal with the rampant unemployment all over Thatcher-era England. And if that wasn’t fitting enough for this feature, “Ghost Town” has also been used in movies like Shaun of the Dead and Snatch, only elevating its profile since its original 1981 release on Two Tone.

This 70’s British act was known as one of the main ska acts at the time, and spooky aside, this is one of the band’s greatest tracks. So, what are you waiting for? Grab some candy corn (or not), open the windows, and go get yourself in the October mood with this spooky and foreboding ska beat.
