Besides a tour in support of this year’s Real Emotional Trash and that now delayed reissue, Stephen Malkmus hasn’t really been big in the news of late. Maybe the recently unveiled video for Trash’s “Gardenia” will help bring him back into the indie spotlight. Perhaps not with the same level of buzz as the Pavement days, but buzz nonetheless.

Two months ago, news came about that this project was in the works under the direction of amateur videographer, Dan Woods.  Well now it’s here, and with a lot of semi-famous people in tow. As stop-action flowers bloom and an animated version of that bird thing from the album cover walks around, numerous indie heroes can be seen lip synching to the song.

Among them are Weezer guitarist Brian Bell, Ratatat, Gregg Gillis aka Girl Talk, Modest Mouse Drummer Joe Plummer, Mudhoney frontman Steve Turner, and Mayor-Elect of Portland Sam Adams. And with all this going on, Malkmus and the Jicks are nowhere to be found.

The video is quite poignant, most noticeably is Gregg Gillis, who seems to be having the time of his life as he haphazardly mouths the lyrics with that big ol’ Girl Talk smile. It looks like it was a lot of fun to make. Anyhow, I guess I’ll let you watch it now…
