People have many different ways of expressing admiration and appreciation for the men and women who have served and who are serving in the military. For Veterans Day (Armistice Day or Remembrance Day), I’d like to share two of my favorite live performances, “Scarlet Tide” performed by Elvis Costello and Emmylou Harris and “Day After Tomorrow” performed by Tom Waits. Both songs cut through the false bravado and romanticism that at times come to be associated with war and capture the true human element present in the gift of sacrifice and service. To veterans and soldiers everywhere, we offer our sincerest thanks and wish you a speedy and safe return home.
