It seems like forever ago that this song was released, but finally, here in the cold month of December, we have a video for the new Smashing Pumpkins single. Titled “G.L.O.W.”, the song not only hearkens back to the radio-friendly days of the Chicago quartet, but rings in some of that rough yet sleek production value lost on most of Zeitgeist. So, in other words, we’re starting to warm up to the band again.
Unlike the video abominations of recent Pumpkins’ lore (e.g. “Tarantula”, “That’s The Way (My Love Is)”, and “Superchrist”), “G.L.O.W.” is a classic throwback to the band’s epic videography. Think of the bleeding murals in “Cherub Rock”, but with that “grassroots” feel of the Gish-era, and then splash some of that gloss from the recent stuff. The colors here are wild, everything from pink to blue to stone cold white, and it all looks outrageously beautiful, especially with the stars dangling around the band. Hey, there are even a few rabbits playing tennis! How about that? Only in the world of Billy Corgan!
Or Lewis Carroll, for that matter.
For those still interested, the Pumpkins are still pummeling through some 20th Anniversary dates, though they’re almost through. Be sure to read through our recent homecoming coverage, and keep on the look out for more, as the band makes its way back through the Windy City come Sunday.
