Check Out: Gorillaz’s new demos

Ahead of what should be a busy next couple months for Damon Albarn, the British mastermind took some time to host a two-hour radio show on BBC Radio 1 yesterday. And as turns out, the Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter and producer brought a few special surprises with him.

In between an eclectic mix of “Dead Prez, Eagles Of Death Metal, Omar Souleyman, and The Horrors, Albarn debut three rough demos of material that will apparently appear on the upcoming new Gorillaz album. Of the three, “Broken” is the only one to actually feature vocals – and at this point, is nothing more than your standard Albarn-created selection. “Electric Shock” and “Binge” are mostly instrumental, but offer a nice variance in style; the former lives true to its name, while the later could best be described as something reminiscent of a music-induced drug trip of some sort. Check them all out below…

As for the album as a whole, Albarn went on to note that he and fellow Gorillaz mastermind, Jamie Hewlett, will head out to Syria in March to begin working the much-anticipated followup to 2005’s Demon Days. No word on when the finished product will be ready – a March release date was originally rumored, but that now appears unlikely – however, it’d be safe to assume Albarn will try to finalize most of the material before he hits the road for that Blur reunion we’re all so eagerly awaiting.
