Taking note of fellow Mayhem Festival ’08 alumnus Slipknot, Disturbed have announced plans for its own extensive North America trek; this in the form of yet another edition of Music as a Weapon. Initiated in 2001, the spring touring festival gained mass appeal over its three previous editions with mainstream-friendly bills featuring the likes of Adema and Drowning Pool joining hosts David Draiman and Co. Beginning in March, MAAIV returns full force but this time around, without the radio saturating bands of yesteryear this time tapping fellow metal powerhouses Killswitch Engage, Chimaira and Lacuna Coil (save the latter).
This year’s trek will visit 38 cities, with festivities setting off March 20th in Madison, Wisconsin before coming to a close May 16th in Chicago, Illinois. Music As A Weapon IV will also feature a number of added benefits, including the loyal inkers of Hart & Huntington Tattoo Company as well as Oliver Peck from Miami Ink to provide tattoos galore. And what’s a traveling festival without freestyle BMX and skate teams for additional entertainment? Tickets for many upcoming dates beginning January 30th via Ticketmaster.com.
As mentioned, MAAIV’s only hardcore music competitors lie within Slipknot’s All Hope Is Gone US Tour (featuring Coheed & Cambria and Trivium) and the Slave To The Metal Festival hosted by Juliya Chernetsky of Fuze’s Rock Countdown (we all remember that mistress), both of which run through late spring. Needless to say, metal heads will have plenty of opportunity to mosh and bang heads in the coming months.
