Weve all been eagerly awaiting M.Wards Hold Time, the 14 track followup to 2006s exceptional Post War, and now with February on the horizon, the singer/songwriter has begun to dish out some early tastes. Starting with the albums title track, Ward recently put together a video thats both captivating and surreal for a song so beautiful it hurts.
Hold Time carries a strong nostalgic vibe with wondrous black and white shots of a distant time and place when people actually looked forward to taking a Skyride around the city. The song is full of strings and distant piano melodies, while kept at a languorous tempo that leaves one suspended in time and almost completely oblivious to the slow motion footage on the screen in front of them. And as you follow the viewing cart around town, lyrics pop up on the bottom half of the screen (anyone remember those Disney sing-a-longs), leaving the viewer in a dream-like trance until the song finishes.
Make sure to keep a look out for Hold Time, which will be in stores February 17th, and if youve got the chance catch the killer folk star on his 2009 tour!
