Their Rise Above the music world now apparently complete, the Dirty Projectors have set their sights on a brand new endeavor, this in the form of the band’s fifth studio album. Hot on the heels of their signing with Domino Records and collaboration with David Bryne on Dark Was the Night, Dave Longstreth and company have announced plans for Bitte Orca.
Scheduled for release on June 9th, the followup to 2007’s Rise Above will be composed of nine tracks, headed by single #1, “Stillness Is the Move”, on April 21st. And while details relating to the actual stylistic and musical nature of the album remain mum, based on the Bitte Orca‘s track titles – “Temecula Sunrise” and “Fluorescent Half Dome” to name a few – it doesn’t appear the Projects have lost any bit of their acclaimed creativity.
Of course, if the forthcoming effort doesn’t capture your heart, you’ll have plenty of other options to fall back on. Bang on a Can will premier a new composition from Longstreth on April 2nd at New York’s Kaufman Center, while fellow bandmate Angel Deradoorian will offer up her debut solo album, Mind Raft, on May 5th. What’s more, Pitchfork Media reports that another new Dirty Projectors studio album – in addition to Bitte Orca – could be in the works as well. And if all else fails, you could always just give Dark Was the Night another spin.
Take that David Bryne!
