The title pretty much says it all on this one, folks. 19 years after the release of its eight studio album, Smooth Noodle Maps, Devo will return with a brand new full-length effort later this year. While details remain sketchy, in a press release detailing the band’s upcoming engagements at South by Southwest, it was confirmed that Mark Mothersbaugh and Co. are currently putting the finishing touches on their new yet-to-be-titled album and will be ready to unveil it this upcoming Fall.
As mentioned, the release will mark Devo’s first new full-length effort since 1990’s Smooth Noodle Maps. In 2007, the Ohio based outfit released “Watch Us Work It,” a song which garnered strong reviews and commercial success, ultimately making its way onto a Dell Comerical. Shortly thereafter, the band reportedly began working on a new album, tentatively titled Don’t Shoot, I’m a Man, but ultimately nothing came to fruition, with rumors circulating that the plans had been scrapped. However, last November, Mothersbaugh revealed to Rolling Stone that the band have 17 songs finished and had been “contacted by 20 producers — including Snoop Dogg and Fatboy Slim.”
As for those aforementioned South by Southwest appearances, Devo will take to Austin next week where the band will both appear on a keynote panel and perform live.
