Let’s see, three years without a new album and currently sporting a brand new record contract with 4AD? Sounds to me like the perfect recipe for some new material and a tour to boot. It also looks as if Camera Obscura feel the same way – not only will Glasgow rockers will be releasing their newest creative effort, My Maudlin Career, on April 20th, but they’ve also announced plans for a North American tour to support it.

First, the album. Camera Obsucra’s fourth full-length effort and first since 2006’s Let’s Get Out Of The Country will mark the second time that the six piece will be working with producer Jari Haapalainen, perhaps best known for his work with Peter, Byorn and John. Consisting of 11 tracks and due for release on April 20th, the album is described as “intense and quite dark,” an attribute that can be head on the title track, which is currently available for a listen on both the band’s MySpace. Fans will also get another early preview when on April 14th, Camera Obsurca releases Maudlin Career‘s  first single, “French Navy”. Indie stoners rejoice!

As for said tour, it will be starting at the end of May and hits all the major stops, including a couple in Canada and one in Mexico, all the way until June. The trek will be proceeded by select dates in both the U.S. and Europe throughout March and April.
