Guster has been well known for its live performances and loyal fan following, even before the numerous soundtrack appearances (see: Life As A House and Garden State; we will play “6 Degrees of Hayden Christensen” later). With their initially underground status, the Bostonians built a foundation that continues to influence other avenues of indie rock, one of them being guitarist Adam Gardner’s foray into environmental awareness called Reverb which initiated the Campus Consciousness tour. The tour which started in 2006 has, according to the most recent press release:
reached over 300,000 students face-to-face on campuses across the country, kept 1.7 million pounds of carbon dioxide from the air, used over 8,000 gallons of biodiesel, and partnered with over 140 campus environmental groups.
That being said, Guster has reunited with Gardner’s pursuits, this time joined by Reverb co-founder Lauren Sullivan, to bring to us the 4th Annual CCT. This year’s installment will begin on April 7th at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts before ending 12 stops later on May 2nd Allbright College in Reading, Pennsylvania.
While news about Guster itself has been solely wrapped up in Gardner’s motives via Reverb and as a keynote speaker to 11,000 students at Powershift ’09, it has been officially noted Guster will be releasing a new record by year’s end, as spoken by lead vocalist Ryan Miller:
After a year and a half of writing and recording, Im excited to play music in a live setting again.”
So, while we all ponder the many possible sounds acquired by the band since its inclusion on the Disturbia OST, you girls with their tongues out over Guster (and Shia LeBeouf, God forbid) will have to trek to one of these fine colleges for your hipster fix. Enjoy!
