Happy 3-11 Day! Let’s celebrate with album news and tour dates!

In case you haven’t checked your calenders, today is indeed March 11, 2009, or more commonly known to frat boys and stoners alike, 3-11 Day! Starting back in 2000, 311 has been celebrating March 11th as its “personal holiday,” highlighted every other year by an extravagant and exhausting concert. And while this March 11th features no concert – the band played its 6th 3-11 Day concert in New Orleans last year – that isn’t stopping the Omaha outfit from celebrating, this time in the form of a bounty of new information pertaining to its upcoming album and tour.

It turns out that Uplifter, the band’s forthcoming Bob Rock-produced studio album, will be officially released on June 2nd and available in both standard and deluxe editions. The latter will include a new 80-minute DVD documentary titled The Road to 3-11 Day 2008. Directed by Wayne Price, the DVD will include behind-the-scenes footage of the band and its fans during the week leading up to 3-11 Day, as well as backstage footage, interviews, fan footage and eight live performances from the 3-11 Day 2008 concert at the New Orleans Arena. Both releases will be proceeded by the album’s first single, “Hey You”, in mid-April. Check out an early taste of the single here, and a preview of the documentary below…

Of course, what would a new 311 album be without a supporting tour? Well, fortunately we won’t have to find out, as the band has also unveiled a slew of upcoming dates for both a spring trek and its annual “Summer Unity” tour, which this year will feature Ziggy Marley as an opener. Tickets for all dates are currently available via Ticketmaster.com.
