Given the recent postponement of Pemberton and the still undetermined status of both the Calgary and Toronto Virgin Festival, Canada’s summer festival scene isn’t experiencing the best of times right now. That being said, the country will have at least one major summer event to look forward to, this in the form of the fourth annual Osheaga Music Festival and its recently announced 2009 lineup.

Coldplay and the Beastie Boys headline the list of 22 acts currently set to descend on Montreal’s Parc-Jean Drapeau from August 1-2, while Rufus Wainwright, The Roots (Jimmy Fallon not included), Arctic Monkeys, Jason Mraz, and The Decemberists round out the list of notables. The festival will also include a few local names: both Winter Gloves and Le Volume Était Au Maximum hail from Montreal.

All in all, Osheaga’s 2009 lineup currenly looks something like this:

Arctic Monkeys, Beast, Beastie Boys, Coldplay, Crystal Castles, The Decemberists, Elbow, Girl Talk, The Honey Brothers, Jason Mraz, Josh Ritter, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Le Volume Était Au Maximum, Lykke Li, Mother Fathers, Parlovr, The Roots, Rufus Wainwright, The Ting Tings, Winter Gloves

For the first time, Osheaga will be divided into two components: taking place from July 30-31, “In the City” will look to kick the festivities off by bring both bands and DJs to venues in and around the city of Montreal (lineup still forthcoming). Part two, “In the Parc,” will follow a day later and serve as the more formal component of Osheaga – this is where the acts included in today’s announcement will play.

Single day, weekend, and VIP passes for “In the Parc” will be available beginning Friday, April 3rd via osheaga.com. All tickets for Osheaga “In the City” events must be purchased separately
