Phish celebrates Hampton with free downloads

In case you’ve been hiding off in Africa hoping to avoid a government investigation over illegal tour during the last few months (a Jack Bauer reference for all you non-24 fans), you probably know that Phish will officially reunite this weekend in Hampton, Virginia. However, until now, the only way non-ticket holding Phishanatics could gain access to the three-day Phisahapoolza was to commit a felony, or sell their soul. I say now, because as we learned today, it so turns out everyone will have an opportunity to hear the styles and sounds of this weekend’s performance…

…courtesy of the digital age, my friends! Yes, Trey Anastasio and Co. have hired a recording company to capture each of the three shows, mix them on site once Phish exits the stage, and release them to the world as free 256kbps MP3s downloads just 24 hours later via True CD-quality FLAC downloads ($12.95/show) or custom 3-CD sets ($23.00) will also be available, which you can currently pre-order on the band’s live recording website.

Following this weekend’s performance, Phish will embark on a summer tour beginning in early June.
