A new Spinal Tap album and tour…what it is it, 1984?
Some 17 years after the release of the semi-fictional outfit’s second studio album, Break Like the Wind, actors musicians Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer will resurrect Spinal Tap for another go around. As we first told you last month, the metal heads are currently putting the finishing touches on yet-to-be-titled new studio, which as we learned today, will be supported by a North American tour. Yes, beginning next month, the trio will embark on the 30-date Unwigged & Unplugged,” or in more layman’s terms, an out-of-character, all acoustic tour. Per Rolling Stone:
Were doing the trio tour because its so easy, McKean says from stage. We just have these wooden instruments and we dont have to wear these things on our heads, unless were playing a temple ?
Adds Shearer, Or a mosque.
Of course, that’s not to say David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls won’t be making an appearance anytime soon. Rolling Stone goes on to note that the band “[plans] on some special live appearances later this year as Spinal Tap in full, wigged regalia, the first since their epic appearance at 2007s Live Earth in London.”
Speaking of which…
