The novelty comedic musical duo Tenacious D, consisting of Kyle Gass and School Of Rock‘s Jack Black, is returning to the studio this year. Following a mild success with the 2006 film Pick of Destiny and what some might call a cult following in the music world, the D have recorded one new song thus far after fans have begged and pleaded. Why the sudden return after what feels like forever? Apparently, Black and Gass have a new destiny to contend with: to get the new song attached to David Fincher’s remake of the cult ’81 classic, Heavy Metal. Pretty ambitious of ’em, huh?
According to Black, the band has already submitted the tune, but in typical oddball fashion, he’s a little weary of anyone knowing about it. When approached about the project, while on set filming the upcoming family comedy Gulliver’s Travels, Black replied, “That’s a horrible scoop to give you. Now if the movie comes out and you see we’re not in it, you’ll be like, ‘Oh, rejected by Fincher!'” Let’s hope it gets through!
While the song title has yet to be revealed, fans in general will be happy to know that something’s cooking with the D. After all, outside the breezy 2006 soundtrack, the D have only recorded one other studio album of original material. Could this be the beginning of a new installment in this mock epic saga? Hopefully, we’ll see soon enough — literally.
