In case you haven’t heard by now, Aerosmith has basically chosen to forgo work on its next studio album in favor of a two month road trip with a bunch of bearded old men. Ok, so maybe that’s putting it rather bluntly, but that’s certainly what will be the case when Joe Perry and Co. team up with ZZ Top this summer for an extensive North American tour.
As we learned today, the joint stint will begin in mid-June, following two one-offs by Aerosmith in St. Louis and East Troy. Currently, the tour consists of 31 dates across both the U.S. and Canada, with additional stops still said to be in the works. The same can be said about the name of many of venues that will be played. Still, if you’re a fan of either band, you should have enough details to get your planning on. Tickets for select dates go on sale April 17th via Livenation.com.
Fan of either band…you know, that’s got me thinking. When you think about it, both bands share quite a few similarities: Each have their own rich history: Aerosmith’s past is littered with bent spoons and rolled up 20s, while ZZ’s involves a search for relevancy in an ever changing world. Every original member of the two bands noted above are nearly 60 years old. Since their inceptions, each band will have contributed 15 studio albums by the end of this year, including 2009 releases for both, well maybe – as mentioned, Aerosmith’s upcoming release will not likely be ready before their tour starts. ZZ Top’s release on the other hand, has been rumored for over three years but does not have a date yet.
So maybe this combination ain’t as weird as we all thought.
