There’s truly never a dull moment in the world of Broken Social Scene. Even with the main outfit lying low these days, its members, specifically Andrew Whiteman, are still dishing out the tunes. On May 19th, the Canadian native will once again team up with bassist Julian Brown and drummer Dean Stone for a new Apostle of Hustle album.
Entitled Eats Darkness and due for release on May 12th via Arts & Crafts, the 13-track effort is billed as a “serial poem about the struggles people go through.” “Songs about tactics and attitudes needed in ‘life during wartime,'” Whiteman explains. “Each track is like a tapas at the banquet of conflict. A small contribution to the articulation of a fucked and beautiful world.”
What are these teaching kids up in Canada these days?
Well, you can surely ask the trio that question and more, when Apostle of Hustle embarks on a North American tour in support of the release next month. The current itinerary includes dates in Canada and up and down the east coast, along with an appearance at the Broken Social Scene presented Olympic Island Festival.
