It’s safe to say The Field is back bringing the bass on the forthcoming Yesterday and Today, set to be released on May 18th. Well, that is if the album’s recently unveiled first single, The More I Do, says anything.
Lush and repetitive – but in the very best way possible, the track, which sees the man group of Axel Wilner team up with Battles bandmates John Stanier and Dan Enquist for drums and bass features a single vocal loop playing throughout, one which is very reminiscent of the airy French techno, with its twinkling synths and lighthearted rhythm. This track is definitely not a one trick pony. Its got several layers and several breaks in the action, allowing for a chance to breathe/re-adjust.
Some may complain about the length and the seemingly over-repetitious nature of “The More That I Do”. Our response? That’s electro music, for ya. And it’s not like the song doesn’t have plenty going for it – for one, just take a look at not so secret weapon Stanier on drums. Adding those crash cymbals, the subtle rolls, the track looks to be a smash played live over a too loud PA system. Luckily for us, well be able to experience that when The Field join The Juan MacLean on tour.
