Eminem returns with new single…unfortunately

Now that Eminem has finally pinned down a release date for his Relapse, the rapper is in full-fledged publicity mode, which was kicked off today with the release of the album’s first single, “We Made You”, and subsequent music video.

    So, the result?

Let’s just say it’d probably be best to pretend what you’re about to see doesn’t actually exist. Ok, so perhaps we are being a bit harsh, but for a musician who has dished out quite a bit of gems in his lifetime and is making his first new release in almost five years, the last thing we were looking for was another three-and-a-half minute diatribe directed at celebrities.

Yes, this is part of Eminem’s make up, and by no means is “We Made You” without its redeeming qualities – the rhymes are smart, the video featuring a fat Jessica Simpson and an overly voluptuous Sarah Palin is hilarious. But it’s not 1999 anymore, it’s 2009, and the fan-base that first embraced the middle school-risque humor is no longer in middle school.

Here’s hoping the first single isn’t a sign of things to come…
