The all-female, British based punk genre just got a little more crowded.

Ok, to be fair, the 1970 punk rock outfit better known as The Stilts isn’t making a comeback – the quintet already did that back in ’05. But come this summer, the group will soon be releasing its first new album in some time.

The Slits, who will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of their debut LP, Cut, later this year, are currently at work on a brand new effort, tentatively entitled Trapped Animal. In an interview with Spinner.com, frontlady Ari Up revealed the album, which will mark the band’s first new release since 2006’s Revenge of the Killer Slits EP, will mark a continuation of the band’s original sound, meaning the same mix of punk and dub that first caught the attention of The Clash nearly three decades ago and prompted the legendary band to invite The Slits to serve as openers for a number of its shows.

“It sticks to the roots of what we are,” she says, “but it’s surprisingly very modern and very new. Which is no surprise to me because I’m aware that we’re modern. It’s very futuristic but it’s also got the roots of what we started.”

A release date and distrubitor have yet to be announced, but according to Up, the band hopes to release the album before the end of the year.
