Who would have thought that when The Dead announced plans for a reunion back in January, it would lead to so much. In addition to their recently launched North American tour, which as we now know includes a stop at The Gorge with some pretty famous brothers and an appearance at this summer’s Rothbury Music Festival, the legendary rockers will also apparently look to record a brand new album.
Well, that is if they follow through with their recent comments made to Billboard.com. “I would think that if we stay on this path that’s inevitable,” percussionist Mickey Hart explained to the music publication. “I think this could be a serious attempt at new Grateful Dead music.”
Now of course, nothing is set and stone, and as of now, as Hart went on to explain, The Dead will look to please fans with the old stuff – “You have to be able to play (old) Grateful Dead music in order to make new Grateful Dead music” – but if a new album would to come about, it would mark the groups’ 14th full-length endeavor and first under the name of The Dead.
In other words, it’s going to be a busy year for the Deadheads.
