And as if life wasn’t good enough for metal heads…

Kicking off in Chicago, Illinois on August 1st, the North America is Doomed tour sponsored by Decibel Magazine and Metalsucks.net is expected to be “one of the most important underground metal packages of 2009.” Featuring Zoroaster, The Gates of Slumber and Serpentcult, the highly anticipated 14-city sludgefest will stop in all major music markets, including New York City, Boston and Montreal, Toronto and Philadelphia.

So, what makes this whole shindig so awesome?

Well, for one, with the sonic ass-whupping they gave the attendees at February’s Scion Rock Fest and the buzz generated after its South by Southwest 2009 appearance, Atlanta’s Zoroaster, who just released its latest full-length Voice of Saturn to critical acclaim (and some vocal assistance by Mastodon’s Brent Hinds) is positioned to have a ground breaking year. Plus, word on the street suggests that the triple threat of Zoroaster, Indianapolis doom metal heroes The Gates of Slumber and Belgium’s Serpentcult, is not only positioned to introduce a new demographic to classic doom/stoner metal, but as all three bands are known within the underground metal scene for putting on stellar live performances, is going to be bruutal (I know, tired cliché….)

Having witnessed Zoroaster live set on at Atlanta strip club the Clermont Lounge, I can safely say that if aging strippers can shake their umm, considerable attributes to ‘avant-garde psych metal’ you will too.
