Even if you have never heard of Big Star before, you know some of their music. That 70’s Show chose their “In The Street” for its theme (though it’s covered by Cheap Trick), making for a fitting representation of an entire decade worth of music. Then there are the numerous covers by Wilco, Elliott Smith, etc. of their poignantly nostalgic “Thirteen”, most notably found on the posthumous Elliott Smith release, New Moon. Some hail the group’s first two records as some of the best of the 70’s, and both #1 Record and Radio City are receiving reissues. But come September, Rhino will release a rarities box set for the biggest Big Star fans around. Titled Keep an Eye on the Sky, the set will include be a four disc collection of rarities, live recordings, and unreleased tracks. It will also include a large book which chronicles the band’s history. All will be available by September 15th for $69.98. Start saving up now. (via Prefix)
