Britpop starlet Kate Nash recently blogged on her MySpace page that she’s spending a couple weeks in LaLa Land to get the gears turning on a follow-up to her UK chart-topping, 2007 debut album, Made of Bricks.
Writes Nash in signature all-lowercase style, “i finally feel ready to start getting stuck into thinking about how to stick these songs together that I’ve been working on for the past 8 months. I feel like the songs are stamps and i need to get someone to lick the the back of the stamps and put them in the right place on the envelope.”
So far she’s just in the “meeting some producers” stage, including “a meeting with this guy in a crunky mansion on laurel canyon and it was huge and i’ve never been in a mansion before and i got to sit and drink rose and look at a mansion and it was very exciting for me.”
Nash also notes that her Hollywood stint coincides with the schedule of her boyfriend’s band, The Cribs.
Songs that Nash has posted on her page that have yet to make their way onto an album include “Model Behaviour”, “Mona the Vampire” (using the same synth-drum beat of her previosly released “Shit Song” and no lyrics other than the title itself) and a cover of The Supremes’ “Baby Love” that gives the song a surprisingly touching, wind-up-jewelry-box reimagining.
Her jocular, folk-infused cover of Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” is also worth a listen, especially if you’re looking for something a bit better than what No Doubt offered up at American Idol last week.
