A U.K. band with a female lead singer singing bombastic pop choruses with a sprinkling of 80s influence mixed in is the cynical way of describing Florence and The Machines sound. So, I won’t do it. Instead, let’s just move onto easier things, like describing the band’s latest offering: The video for Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) is just a day at the park, with medieval garb, a banquet table, grapes, and flowing dresses topped off with synchronized dancing and quite possibly a Viking Funeral without the fire. Typical things everyone likes to do when the weather gets warm, namely frolicking.
The song itself is a mix of stylized pop that harkens back to the 80s but its more than just a nostalgia trip. There is some good imagery found in the lyrics and the vocals have vivacity to them that demands attention and as I mentioned earlier, the chorus plays to reach the rafters.
