If you haven’t heard of the BLK JKS yet, don’t worry, you will soon enough. Actually, you will starting right now. Hot off several months of blogosphere praise following the release of their debut EP, Mystrey, and an appearance at South by Southwest, the Johannesburg quartet of Lindani Buthelezi, Mpumi Mcata, Molefi Makananise, and Tshepang Ramoba, have announced plans for the band’s debut full-length, After Robots.
Due out on September 8th via Secretly Canadian, the Brandon Curtis (as in Brandon Curtis from the Secret Machines) produced effort promises to feature a “distinctly South African vision of rocks global travel and the possibility of what it can sound like from here on out.” In other words, as After Robots’ first single/the mp3 below, “Molalatladi”, further exemplifies, expect a whole lot of jazz, blues, and dub all tied together in some nice prog.
Ahead of the release, BLK JKS will release a limited edition remix 12″ of its previously released single, “Mystery”, on July 7th. The band also has a couple dates planned, which you can learn about below.
