Well, Kanye ain’t lying. Jay-Z really doesn’t like auto-tune.
In what is apparently the forthcoming Blueprint 3‘s first “street single” – please don’t confuse this with the official single, which according to DJ Skee (via Ace Showbiz), will be called “Off That” and will feature Cashmoney newcomer, Drake, “D.O.A.” (or Death of Auto-Tune as its fully known) hears the New York rapper all but lambasting the current hip-hop phenomena. “This is anti-auto-tune/Death of the ringtone/This ain’t for iTunes/This ain’t for sing-a-longs,” he raps. Power stuff, and that was just the first verse! Other highlights? This ain’t a number one record. This is practically assault with a deadly weapon.”
Of course, all this proves to be somewhat ironic, considering producer Kanye West’s last undertaking made almost exclusive use of the auto-tune trend. Though Kanye does seem to be making an artistic statement with this decision (and a valid one), one could argue “D.O.A.” is a bit of a smack in the face to the producer. But it’s Kanye and Kanye knows what Kanye’s doing, so…
As mentioned, the song will be found on the September 11th release of Blueprint III, reportedly released to celebrate the eighth anniversary of the first Blueprint installment. Check it out for yourself below, courtesy the fine folks at YoRaps.com.
