Chicago to Earth, Wind & Fire: “It’s just you ‘n me”

Haters of Me-generation power-pop, look away. Because it looks like all that recent joint touring between 1970s blockbuster bands Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire has become a hard habit to break. And so now we really know what time it is: time for those two chart-toppers to get into the studio and record a full-length album as one.

At least that’s what Chicago keyboardist and songwriter Robert Lamm recently told Billboard.com, saying that such a collaboration could “possibly be the next project,” but that it would have to “genetically reflect where the two bands are coming from… something contemporary that the sum of two bands is greater than.”

In the meantime, the Chicago/Earth, Wind & Fire summer tour — which, sadly, only lasts till August; hence, we won’t be dancing in September — is a charity-minded one, with requests for cash and/or canned goods at their shows, and a selection of downloadable songs (each band covering a single from the other’s catalog) benefiting World Hunger Year.

Should you find this news brief too pun-laden for your tastes, well, it was just so much fun to write that it’s hard to say I’m sorry.
