When your main outfit is taking a “big hiatus,” you have plenty of time to embark on new projects – note the “s” after project. In addition to the forthcoming Monsters of Folk, My Morning Jacket‘s Jim James will also celebrate his first solo release in the coming months, this in the form of a six-track George Harrison tribute EP aptly entitled Tribute To.
Due out on August 4th via ATO Records, the EP was reportedly recorded days after the former Beatle passed in 2001, but only now is getting a proper release. Of the six tracks included, four selections were taken from Harrison’s solo career, while two come from material he penned with the Beatles. According to Billboard, the set is said “to evoke a raw, minimalist feel’ with James utilizing just his voice and an acoustic guitar.”
Oh, yeah, and one more thing: James will release Tribute To under the name Yim Yames, because, that’s the kind of stuff you apparently due when your name is Jim James, frontman of My Morning Jacket.
