Oxford Collapse calls it quits

    Not that anyone’s going to notice, given the heavy rotation in the Brooklyn scene, but the burrough just lost another act amongst the clutter. Today, indie sensation Oxford Collapse decided to hang the proverbial hat. In these situations, we usually like to let the bands speak for themselves, especially when an open letter has been provided…

    After eight years, 450 shows, and four albums, we’ve decided that we’ve reached the end of the line. To paraphrase the Grateful Dead, “what a long, strange, eye-opening, stomach-bursting, heart-breaking, bittersweet, educational, enlightening, mind-numbing, ‘why-are-we-doing-this-shit?’ / ‘who-gets-to-do-this-shit?,’ absurd, amazing trip it’s been.” To paraphrase another sage poet, “you gotta know when to hold ‘em and know when to fold ‘em.”

    Oxford Collapse first formed in 2002 and to date has released four-full-length efforts, the most recent being BITS in August of 2008 via Sub Pop Records. The trio, which consists of Michael Pace, Adam Rizer, Dan Fetherston, gave no reasoning behind the decision. They did, however, announce plans for two final performances, both appropriately scheduled to take place in the New York City area, so you can wish them good bye…
