While they won’t be supporting a new album (yet), legendary punk act Social Distortion returns to North America this summer, following its current stint through Europe. The upcoming summer road trip takes the Fullerton natives from Seattle to Ontario, with some festivals to kick around too, including Canada’s sports-infused, Wakestock. Not too bad for a group that dates back to 1978, huh?
Things change, though. This past April, longtime drummer Charlie “Chalo” Quintana left the band to pursue other musical interests. Rest assured, no blood was shed. Shortly after his departure, Quintana posted on his message board a rather friendly farewell: “Playing with Social D was a good time in my life. I am proud to have been part of the band.” Drummer Atom Willard (The Offspring, Angels & Airwaves) takes the kit this time around.
As for the long awaited follow up to 2004’s Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll, vocalist Mike Ness sounds enthused, but very tentative:
“I think it could be really, really neat,” Ness said during an AOL Spinner interview last year about planning an acoustic album for the band. “It’s almost like a Bob Dylan/Bruce Springsteen/Johnny Cash kind of feel with a punk edge … but acoustic.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but haven’t they already done that?
