Alice in Chains Gives Way to the road…

After shattering the net yesterday with “A Looking In View”, Alice in Chains continues to deliver and this time with some more tour dates. While the mid to late summer dates will see them supporting the likes of Kid Rock and Metallica, the band headlines its own tour beginning in September. Judging from the choice of venues (First Avenue? The Rave?), these should be intimate shows in stark contrast to their latest festival appearances.

All this will be in support of their upcoming studio album, Black Gives Way to Blue, due out September 29th, which as Matt Melis put it yesterday, will be the band’s first in 14 years and with frontman William DuVall, who fills in for the late Layne Staley. Guitarist, vocalist and founding member Jerry Cantrell remains in the foreground, however, and sounds pretty into the new material, as he recently talked about “A Looking in View”.

“The song basically speaks to any number of things that keep you balled up inside,” Cantrell explains. “A cell of our own making with an unlocked door that we choose to remain in. Focusing our attention inward instead of reaching out to a much larger world. I think this is common to us all. It’s funny how hard we fight to hang on to a bone we can’t pull through a hole in the fence, or how difficult it is to put down the bag of bricks and move on.”

Hmm, whatever that means, we’re just glad it sounds good. Here’s hoping the album’s just the same. Until then, time to catch up on the oldies, starting with Facelift.
