If the name Jemina Pearl sounds familiar, that’s because it is. She was the frontwoman of the now-defunct rock band known as Be Your Own Pet. Key words: was and defunct.
Nearly a year after her old band announced its breakup, Pearl has returned with plans for her newest endeavors. And like most others these days, those plans include a solo album and a tour to boot.
On October 6th, the Brooklyn musician will release her solo debut and based on the title, Break It Up, and first single, “I Hate People”, we’re guessing the events of the last year have found their way into the 13-track effort. That as well as the production talents of John Agnello (The Hold Steady, Sonic Youth) and the guest vocal work of Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, TV on the Radio’s David Site, and Iggy Pop.
