There are two trends currently besieging the music world: Solo albums from members of high-profile indie bands and the formation of supergroups. We’ve already seen an example of the former today and now, thanks to some crazy Brooklynites, we’ve got the latter. Meet The Babies, a newly formed Brooklyn lo-fi band consisting of Vivian Girls frontwoman Cassie Ramone, Woods bassist Kevin Morby and Bossy drummer Justin Sullivan.
According to Pitchfork, the project started when Ramone and Morby, who shared an apartment last year, began casually writing songs together. Fast forward a year, and the of duo + Sullivan are ready to record what they came up with. What exactly they have planned however, has yet to be determined. “We have enough songs for a full-length, but we’re not entirely sure how we’re going to release them yet,” Ramone explained to Pitchfork.
A preview of whatever is to come can probably be heard in the below video, which was taken from the band’s recent performance — only their third ever! — at the Woodsist/Captured Tracks Festival in Brooklyn:
While Ramone went on to note that The Babies may hit the road later this year, she warned not to expect too much, “I don’t really foresee it being anything more than a side project for the time being.” After all, her main outfit does have a new album hitting stores in September with a lengthy tour in support of it to follow.
