What do you get when you merge These United States with The Scourge of The Sea? Englishman, of course. In any other context that logic would ring absurdly false, but if you’re talking about the two Lexington, Kentucky-based bands, what’s produced in the merger is a surprising, pastoral EP entitled Taxidermy. Englishman, composed of The Scourge of The Sea’s Andrew English and These United States’ Justin Craig and Matthew Duncan, will no doubt appeal to those who love finger-picked guitar, gentle vocal harmonies, piano arpeggios, and lots of subtle bell tones for color. In addition, the warm, inviting production hides the fact that the EP just happened to be recorded in English’s apartment. Taxidermy is worth checking out to hear a trio who have absorbed the music of their home, and remain indebted to it, but have birthed something that resonates in its own voice.
