Athens based singer/songwriter Vic Chesnutt has never been one to shy away from high-profile collaborations. In the 19 years since he’s released his debut studio album, the musician has collaborated with the likes Michael Stipe, Lambchop, Bill Frisell, Widespread Panic, the Cowboy Junkies, and most recently, Elf Power and Dark Night of the Soul.
On September 22nd, Chesnutt will continue this trend when he unveils the followup to 2007’s North Star Deserter. Entitled At the Cut, the effort will feature the talents of producer Howard Bilerman, formerly of the Arcade Fire, as well as Fugazis Guy Picciotto and members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Silver Mt. Zion.
The result is an album described as “reflecting the broad stylistic range” of Chesnutt and its contributors, with sounds ranging from acostic to “sweeping walls of noise.” Lyrically, At the Cut also offers a wide range of emotions as themes of cowardice, courage, mortality, tenacity, defiance, mourning, and memory are all said to be present.
At the Cut will be available as both a CD and LP. No word on whether Chesnutt plans to tour in support of the album.
