Update: Contrary to Mia Tyler’s on-site coverage, Tyler broke his shoulder and the tour has been postponed, more info available via Billboard.

In his endless pursuit to cheat death, Aerosmith‘s own Steven Tyler suffered some minor injuries after a near-fatal fall at the group’s South Dakota performance this past Wednesday. The band had been midway through their 1989 jukebox favorite, “Love in an Elevator”, when the sound cut out, which prompted Tyler to dance from the catwalk above. Naturally, things went a little awry.

Shocking fans and frightening everyone on-stage, Tyler slipped and fell off the edge, sustaining injuries in both his neck and shoulder. The big-lipped, funky frontman played it tough, however, and after some assistance from the on-site doctor, he was helicoptered to Rapid City Regional Hospital, where he received some special care, which probably included ice packs, some re-runs of Matlock, and a lollipop.

Rest assured Aero-heads (or whatever you call yourselves), Tyler is alive and well, at least according to his daughter Mia Tyler, who tweets: “Just got the news that my dad is okay. Thank you all for your wonderful prayers and positive energy!”

Well, ain’t that special. How about some celebratory bubbly and dusting off Get a Grip for the remainder of the tour? And Tyler, how about you start livin’ on the edge, rather than falling off it? Huh? Sorry, too good to pass up.
