Vocalist, guitarist, and sole survivor of the Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan plans to hit the road again, though not far. The Chicagoan-turned-L.A. wonderboy has scheduled six tour dates in the City of Angels from August 26th to the 3s1st. What you may not know is that he’s leaving the Smashing Pumpkins moniker at home, and instead will be accompanied by special guests Spirits in the Sky, the recent tribute band dedicated to the late Seeds’ founder and vocalist, Sky Saxon.
This isn’t the first time Corgan has been together with the tribute band. In fact, just last month, at the Los Angeles Echoplex, the band joined Corgan and newly added Pumpkin, drummer Mike Byrnes, on a short yet memorable set. What’s interesting, however, is the connection between the two bands runs deep, as Spirits’ drummer Kerry Brown was once married to former Pumpkins bassist, D’Arcy Wretzky. That’s not all. To add more emotional ties, Corgan was involved on a project with Saxon shortly before his death. The two had an unreleased song “Choose to Choose Love”, which can be found via the Pumpkins’ website or Kerry Brown’s Facebook page.
Venues for the upcoming tour dates haven’t been announced yet, but stay alert.
