Are you Ready for the Weekend?
Stupid question, right? Because even if I wasn’t referencing Calvin Harris’ forthcoming studio album, about which, given the absurd nature of its first single (see the part about the Humanthesizer below), one can’t help but be intrigued, and instead was asking you about those actual “Happy Days,” I’d get an extreme “duh.” But forgive me… I needed a way to kick this story off.
So, anyway, on October 6th, the Scottish electro musician known as Calvin Harris will bring his sophomore studio effort, Ready for the Weekend, stateside. The self-produced work features 14 tracks which, as Harris notes, seek to convey some rather enormous vibes. “What I’m into at the moment… is the idea of stadium dance”, he proclaimed. “Playing football stadiums with massive riffs, big hands-in-the-air moments.”
For a not particularly accurate but pretty stimulating taste of what is to come, check out the recently unveiled video for the album’s first single and title track below. Basically, it’s just a bunch of scantly clad women covered in music-generating body paint (Harris calls it a Humanthesizer) who somehow manage to perform the song. Absurd… yet fun.
Harris will support the release of Ready for the Weekend with a few U.S. DJ dates during the month of September. If you’re looking for something a bit more live, you’ll have to hit the U.K. where Harris is playing anywhere and everywhere through the end of the year.
