According to reports from Rolling Stone, Gnarls Barkley frontman Cee-Lo will reunite with former rap group Goodie Mob for one night only in his hometown of Atlanta. The best part? It all goes down soon, as in very soon, as in the next two weeks. Yes, on September 19th, the original line up will once again share the same stage, playing hits from their relatively expansive back catalog, though more specifically their 1995 critically and commercially acclaimed debut, Soul Food.
The gig’s under the moniker “Remember Atlanta”, and arrives less than a year since Goodie Mob’s last unofficial reunion. However, the idea’s been brewing for a long time, as Cee Lo says it’s, “something we have collectively talked about doing for a long time. The people have called for it, and with the state of the union the way it is, the time is right.
Given Cee-Lo’s notoriety with Gnarls Barkley, it’s no surprise that he has some pull in the hip-hop community, so fans can speculate that the Mob might share the stage with similarly huge acts. Already, rumors suggest that additional members of the Dungeon Family (an Atlanta-based hip-hop collective of which Goodie Mob are key members) will perform, with associated acts including the likes of Outkast, Bubba Sparxxx, and Malachi.
