Forget peanut butter and chocolate. We’ve found the two truly tastiest American classics to have ever been combined into a glorious bite-sized portion: John Fogerty and Bruce Springsteen.

The two American dukes of semi-country rock have thrown on their spurs and 10 galloons and gone full country with the song “When Will I Be Loved”, the first single off Fogerty’s new album, The Blue Ridge Rangers Ride Again. If you remember (you probably don’t), the first Blue Ridge Rangers album came out back in ‘73 and offered Fogerty the chance to distance himself from the bluesy rock of Creedence Clearwater Revival.

If “When Will I Be Loved” is any indication, Fogerty’s 36-year followup proves the legendary songwriter still has a few spices left in the ol’ crockpot. He’s just not the only guru in the proverbial kitchen. While the new song chugs, twangs, and cuts loose with the power of any country standard, the real treat is hearing the Boss power through his verse like a drunken — and especially — troubled Merle Haggard.

The Blue Ridge Rangers Ride Again
will mosey on into record stores on September 1st and also feature Don Henley of the Eagles. “When Will I Be Loved” is available on iTunes come August 11th. Or, we reckon you can stream it now below.
