Devendra Banhart hitches up with Warner for weirdly titled new album

Here’s a few things you should know about Devendra Banhart‘s forthcoming followup to 2007’s Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon: The album will mark the singer/songwriter’s first with Warner/Reprise which recently drew him away from XL Recordings. It contains 14 tracks, described as “wicket good,” and was co-produced by DB and Band Of Bees’ Paul Butler. It features a backing band consisting of Megapuss bandmate Greg Rogove, Little Joy’s Rodrigo Amarante, Luckey Remington, and Noah Georgeson.

Oh yeah, and then there’s that thing about the name. Look for Banhart’s new album to rival Mew for honors of strangest title of the year. After all, it will be called:

What
Will     We
Be

Yes, the spacing is intentional. Why? Who knows… but it sure as hell makes presenting the tracklisting below a bit harder.

The album is scheduled to hit stores this fall. For a preview, scroll below and you’ll find a few live videos of Banhart performing two of new tracks, “Chin Chin & Muck Muck” and “Baby”, in San Francisco back in April (via Stereogum).
