The Toronto International Film Festival just got a whole lot more free Neil Young concerts

Ok, so maybe the Toronto International Film Festival is only getting one, small, free Neil Young concert, but it’s a free . . . Neil . . . Young. . . concert, so it’s worth raving about. Originally, Young was listed to stop by for an appearance, coinciding with the premiere of Jonathan Demme’s second documentary on the Canadian folky, Neil Young Trunk Show, but now it seems he’ll be sitting down to play some of his tunes as well. This tidbit of info was latched onto a photo found in yesterday’s Toronto Star (via TwentyFourBit): “Neil Young, bottom right, will be giving a free outdoor concert as part of a more ‘user-friendly’ initiative.” Rather large news for such a small caption. Oh, did we mention Joan Baez will also be performing. Yeah.

These facts, though rather pertinent to us music folk, seem to be pretty disposable to the people writing about TIFF over at the Toronto Star. The concert will be held at Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square, the same location where the film will be showing. The film will premiere on Monday, September 14th at 8 pm, and the concert will presumably be somewhere around that time. Anyhow, if you’re planning on going to the festival, you’d be foolish not to stop by for some Neil. And if you’re really on a rock doc kick and not too incapacitated by the effects of an intimate Neil Young performance, TIFF will also be hosting the premiere of the White Stripes documentary, Under Great White Northern Lights. Kind of not to be missed.
