European production duo Radioclit and Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya have announced that their debut full-length album, Warm Heart of Africa, will be released on September 22nd on Green Owl through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group. Under the name of The Very Best, their album follows last year’s surprisingly successful mixtape that the group made available online for free.
The band came together in 2007 when Mwamwaya met Etienne Tron, one half of Radioclit, at a London second-hand furniture shop he ran that happened to be near the duo’s studio. After meeting the other half of duo, Johan Karlberg, Mwamwaya was originally asked to contribute his talents as a drummer. When the duo found out that he was also a singer, they decided to combine Radioclit’s self-described “ghetto-pop” style with the emotive singing style of Mwamwaya.
While the group’s earlier free mixtape was remixes of other artists’ songs, Warm Heart Of Africa contains all original tunes. It also has the support of some strong guest artists. Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig and M.I.A. appear on “Warm Heart of Africa” and “Rain Dance” respectively.
The band just recently completed their first tour dates in the U.S. and currently have no further dates scheduled except for an appearance at Oya Festival in Norway on August 15th.
