The Who offers peek at upcoming plans

Earlier this month, we told you that The Who’s Roger Daltrey would be embarking on a U.S. tour this fall in order to “keep his voice trim” for upcoming Who ventures.

Thanks to a recently posted blog on the band’s official website (via Pitchfork), we now know what exactly will compose said ventures. According to the posting, Pete Townshed is currently penning a musical titled Floss. Billed as similar to classic rock operas like Tommy and Quadrophenia, the English native’s endeavor will tell the story of the relationship between a pub-rock musician who suddenly finds wealth and his wife, while incorporating “surround-sound ‘soundscapes’ featuring complex sound-effects and musical montages.”

Soundtracks, complex effects, and montages? Sounds like something that would work well on a new Who album, right? Well, Townshed apparently thinks so and went on to confirm in the note that much of the show’s music will find its way on the band’s next album, which as it turns out is due for release next year.

To recap, lots of new Who coming soon.

Floss is expected to be unveiled (possibly somewhere in New York) in 2011. Find Daltrey’s aforementioned tour dates below.
