It seems like we’ve been talking about Van Morrison and Astral Weeks for almost a year now (oh, that’s right… we have). So, it seems only right that the legendary singer/songwriter has decided to give us an up close and personal view of his last 12 months.
In what will provide each and everyone an opportunity to relive the 1968 classic just as he did, Morrison has announced plans for a brand new documentary. Titled To Be Born Again and due for release in early 2010, the feature-length film will look to relive the events of the last year with a slew of live performance and behind-the-scenes footage as well as interviews and other special features.
According to Rolling Stone, Morrison, who served as co-director, hopes to use the documentary to tell “his story the way he wants it to be told.” As a result, the finished product seeks to reflect the musician’s artistic vision, or as co-director Darren Doane put it, Its another 90-120 minutes of pure Van art.
The film shows the real Van Morrison, said Doane. Its his film. And the film is about exposing and tearing down all the myths about Van Morrison and the music industry as a whole.
Ahead of the film’s release, Morrison will finish a few more U.S. tour dates. Get all those below.
