Watch: The Cribs – “Cheat on Me”

As you may know, loyal readers, The Cribs are getting back in the saddle, set to release Ignore the Ignorant on September 17th. They’ve also gained another member (though not another brother) in the form of Johnny Marr. For those whose fears that the tightly paced punk stylings of the brothers Jarman may be lost in the shuffle and influence of Marr can now judge for themselves thanks to the new video for “Cheat on Me”.

As soon as the fast riffs hits, it sounds nothing like The Cribs. The swirling guitar line of Marr wraps around the brothers like an old friend. The sound is mature, dare I say refined. The skittering guitar style by Ryan Jarman is less prevalent and is reserved for the support of Marr’s lead guitar. The rough vocals of Gary Jarman hit and the band’s sound finally comes out. The lyrics and subject matter are ones The Cribs and many young men have covered throughout the centuries.  Familiar but fun territory nonetheless, the yelps and howls of Ryan Jarman are there as well as the assured drummer of third brother Ross Jarman.

The video looks like a video from the 80’s, with color bleeding, cheap backdrop as if to re-introduce the band. Very simple with a focus on the band playing, getting everyone up close and personal. Get used to the new band, it looks like they may be here for awhile.
